Maca

What is Maca?'*
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a tuber-root, shaped like a radish, that is highly valued both as a food supplement and as a natural medicine. Maca helps to regulate and control normal body functions and has numerous health benefits, to the extent that the Peruvian Maca root has become known as the "Peruvian Ginseng".

What are Maca’s benefits?
The high level of nutrients it contains makes the Maca root an excellent food supplement and a natural energizer. It is a cerebral stimulant that promotes mental clarity and improves the memory and learning abilities, and helps to reduce stress, tension and tiredness. Additionally, Maca is a fertility enhancer, and is used in the treatment of problems related to sterility, frigidity and sexual impotence. It regulates hormonal activity in both men and women and is recommended for problems associated with the menopause and menstrual irregularities. It has also been found to have an antioxidant effect.

How does Maca work?
Maca is an adaptogen, and adapts to your body's metabolism. It works with your body to repair what needs to be repaired so that an optimal and ideal level of health and energy is maintained at all times.
Maca’s life enhancing properties and tremendous nutritional value come from its carbohydrate, protein, fiber, and lipid content. It is very rich in essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Nearly 60 phytochemicals are also present in Maca. However, the greatest importance of Maca comes from the combination of its nutritional elements with other components (alkaloids, glucosinates, amino acids and sterols), resulting in the production of heightened nutritional/medicinal effects.

How should Maca be taken?
Maca can be taken either in capsules or in powder form. Both have the same advantages and benefits, given that equivalent dosages are consumed. See our “Recipies” section to discover different ways of consuming Maca Powder.

How much Maca should I take?
Maca is a natural food supplement and can be consumed in higher quantities than other natural medicines. In fact there isn’t a standard dose for natural herbal products like Maca, the proper measure depends on one’s weight, sensitivity, age and gender. We recommend taking dosages of between 1,500 to 3,000 mg/day (3 to 6 capsules of 500 mg; or ½ to 1 teaspoon if you’re are taking it in powder form). However, the dosage can be increased if required, depending on your body’s reaction to the product.
It is important to mention that if you take less than the minimum recommended dosage on a daily basis, it’s probable that you won’t obtain the expected results. Maca is a nutraceutical product and does not require a medical prescription.

What are the benefits of Gelatinized Maca?
Vita Preciosa Maca is Gelatinized, which makes it easier for the body to digest and assimilate its benefits. The concentration of Maca's active ingredients is also higher in gelatinized Maca than in normal Maca and thus the beneficial effects are felt more readily.
An additional advantage to the Gelatinized Maca is its highly superior flavor. Gelatinized Maca has a pleasant, sweet, nutty taste, far more palatable than the somewhat bitter tasting normal Maca powder. This is important if you are thinking of consuming Sentia in powder form.

Is Vita Preciosa Maca Organic?
The producer of Vita Preciosa Maca holds the Organic Certification issued by Contol Union (Skal International).

Does Maca have any side effects or drug interactions?
There are no known side effects to Maca. However, consult your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, undergoing a postoperatory period, taking medication, or if you have a medical condition. If you experience any adverse reaction, stop usage and consult your doctor. At the time of writing, there were no documented reports of drug interactions attributed to the use of Maca.
